Electric Sign Repair
We can repair and restore most types of electric signs. Neon, LED, florescent, and other types as well. Our approach is typically to bring the entire display back to a like-new condition if possible. This often means repairing previous work that was done incorrectly, and bringing the display up to the current electrical code with regards to ground-fault protection, proper grounding, and a service disconnect switch. Many of the signs we have restored suffered from years of neglect. Many had not operated for several decades. Sometimes restoring a historic sign involves digging up old photographs of what it once looked like. Send is a picture of your sign that needs repair, and we’ll let you know if it’s something we can help you resolve, an approximate cost, and time required.
If you’ve come across an old vintage neon sign, take care of it. In most cases you should never attempt to re-paint it. In fact, most of the value of the sign will in that old, faded, weathered sign face that has a thousand stores to tell! Many older signs were made with a porcelain face. This is a permanent, high-quality finish composed of colored glasses fused onto a metal surface. While still done on a small scale today, this process is very costly and rarely done in commercial sign applications. While environmentally robust, a porcelain finish can chip or crack if the face is bent. The Violet Crown Shopping Center and Lantex Theater signs above are
porcelain. That is why even after half a century, they appear mostly
as they did when built. No fading or peeling paint. Porcelain signs are works of art and should be treated with great care.
Note: we do not repair neon beer signs or similar novelty-type displays. Most of these items are now imported and we no longer stock the materials to repair them.
