LED & Neon Outline Lighting
LED “neon like” products are great for locations subject to physical damage. We also have a variety of special effects available, including color-changing RGB varieties. Almost any color imaginable can be dialed-in. The logo above was created using RGB module. Like most corporate logos, a specific color is important for brand recognition. We used a color changing RGB product and were able to create the specific teal color used by the entity. Since this display is located in a company cafe, it was decided to use an LED product to prevent the chance of damage in a high-traffic corridor.
These products are not neon. They generally emit color in only one direction, so you do not get the “glow” on the back side of the wall as you do with a real neon tube. They are also a bit less durable outdoors than neon, as their silicone or polymer jacket ages with exposure to the elements.
Rigid outdoor “border” tubes are also available. These are available in a variety of stock colors, and we can generally install them much as one would a similar neon product.
Both Neon and LED borders and outline lighting products are very energy efficient: around 3 watts/linear ft at full intensity.
LED signs do not have the same “wow” factor as their glass-tube neon counterparts. While it’s easy to create intricate designs now with the flexible strips, our experience is they do not convey the same emotion, romance, and intrigue as real, glass-tube neon.
An LED flex neon supplier from Shenzhen, China confided in me during a sales call that “LED’s have no soul.” I never considered those words before, but it’s quite true! Flex LED neon is a molded-silicone bar, with LED’s embedded ever few millimeters. Real neon is a hand-formed glass tube with a noble-gas inside that lights up into a wide-spectrum discharge. The difference is profound. About the only similarity each medium has is that they are both linear light sources.
